Camps
Port Broughton Area School provides a wide range of camping experiences for year 5-11 students. Camps provide an opportunity for students to develop:
- independence
- social skills and stronger relationships
- environmental awareness
- new knowledge and skills
- leadership and decision making
Year 5/6/7 Camps
Errappa Police Campsite (Iron Knob)
“Errappa” is a Blue Light Outdoor Adventure Camp based in Iron Knob. Errappa’s programs incorporate an exciting range of indoor training activities with challenging outdoor activities, requiring teamwork for goal achievement. Activities include high ropes challenge course, Leap of faith, 120m flying fox, 14m abseiling/rock-climbing tower.
Port Vincent Aquatics Camp
The Port Vincent Aquatic Centre is a Department for Education aquatic centre which is a division of the water safety team. The centre conducts lessons in the safe and picturesque Port Vincent Bay as well as other locations around the Yorke Peninsula. Activities include knee boarding, sailing, sailboarding, kayaking, boogie boarding and surfing.
Warradale Urban Camp
Students stay at Warradale Urban Camp and experience a range of fun activities including the St. Kilda Adventure Playground, Australian Aquatics Centre and Marion, the Beach House, Latitude and ten pin bowling.
Year 8/9 Camps
Murraylands Aquatics Centre
The Murraylands Aquatic Centre is a Department for Education aquatic centre which is a division of the water safety team. We conduct lessons on the Murray River promoting water safety, and survival in the water. Activities include skiing, knee boarding, rowing, kayaking, canoeing, small boat handling, sailing and sailboarding.
Woodhouse Activity Centre
This is a tenting camp where students cater for themselves using Trangia fuel stoves. Students have access to toilets, hot showers, under cover dining, sinks and BBQ facilities, as well as shared campfire circles. The camp provides a combination of adventure and team building activities including a Ninja Warrior Course, a giant split-level maze, waterless waterslides, Frisbee golf, rock climbing, bouldering, laser skirmish, flying fox and Challenge Hill.
Year 10/11 Camps
Canberra/Ski Trip
An eight-day trip starting with three days in Canberra. Experiences include Parliament House, Old Parliament House, the Institute of Sport, National Gallery of Australia, the Royal Mint and the Australian War Memorial. Students then have three days at the Perisher Ski Resort receiving skiing lessons and free time to explore the resort.
Year 9/10 Outdoor Education (elective)
Odd Year
- Indoor rock climbing (day excursion)
Two hours of climbing instruction at an indoor climbing facility. - Sailing
This is an overnight camp. Students experience a full day of sailing instruction at the Port Vincent Aquatics Centre. - Bushwalk
Overnight tent camp based at Mambray Creek campground. Full day hike following the Hidden Gorge trail.
Even Year
- Rock climbing and abseiling at Morialta Conservation Park (day excursion).
Three hours of climbing and abseiling instruction provided in a natural environment.
- Mountain biking at Melrose
Two hours of mountain biking instruction and instructor lead trail riding.
- Bushwalk
A two night bushwalk requiring students to carry all equipment and food. Students hike from Alligator Gorge to Kingfisher Flat bush camp (1st night) and then to Mambray Creek campground (2nd night).
